Naval vessles on standby, ADMM-Plus Counter Terrorism Exercise underway in Brunei

The opening ceremony of the fourth military drills for the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) was held in Seri Begawan, capital of Brunei, on May 3.

Ten ASEAN members and its eight partners --China, Russia, the US, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand and India participate in this exercise. The Chinese military has sent missile destroyer “Lanzhou”, along with 12 SWAT soldiers and four staff officers, to join the exercise.

According to the plan, the exercise is to be conducted in Brunei and Singapore and the waters off the two countries from May 2to May 12. The drills will include jointed military training, sailing in formation, escorting, searching at sea, helicopter landing on each other’s warships, fighting against terrorism, etc.

The exercise is the first maritime security and anti-terrorism exercise under the frame of the ASEAN Defense Ministers' Meeting-Plus, which aims to boost pragmatic cooperation in defense and security amongst all the parties taking part.
