More than 100 Russian athletes have filed individual requests to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), seeking admission to the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, the Russian Paralympic Committee (RPC) said Tuesday.

A RPC statement quoted the RPC Chairman of the Board and First Vice President Pavel Rozhkov as saying that more than 100 out of 266 candidates had sent requests.

A RPC spokeswoman told Xinhua that another 54 athletes banned from the Games could not file individual requests, as they represented team sports.

The IPC decided to suspend Russia from participating in the Rio Paralympics following allegations that there was state-run doping violations across the Russia sport community.

The RPC filed an appeal to the Court of Arbitration of Sports (CAS), but the court rejected it on August 23, making it hopeless for Russian Paralympians to compete in the Games scheduled on September 7-18.
