At least five insurgents were killed as clashes erupted between Taliban and the rival Islamic State (IS) group in the eastern Nangarhar province, a provincial government spokesman said Saturday.

The clashes, according to spokesman Attaullah Khogiani, occurred in Ghulam Dak area of Chaparhar district Friday evening. As a result three IS fighters and two Taliban militants were killed.

Both the rival armed groups often fight over expanding territory in parts of the conflict-hit Afghanistan.
