Indian police narrow down on perpetrators of bomb blasts

Indian police are narrowing down on the perpetrators of the serial blasts in the eastern city of Patna which killed five and injured over 80 Sunday.

Police are conducting raids in Ranchi, state capital of Jharkhand in eastern India, based on the results of interrogation of a man arrested on the spot of the blasts, said TV channel CNN- IBN.

The man was arrested by police after trying to flee the blast spot, where the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi was addressing a huge rally.

Jharkhand is the neighboring state of Bihar, whose capital is Patna.

Police have found a cooker full of explosives during their raids in Ranchi.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the blasts were aimed at creating chaos in his state.

So far no one has claimed responsibility for the blasts, which took place at a railway station, a movie theatre and a field for huge political rallies in Patna.

Indian leaders, including Presidnet Pranab Mukherjee, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and ruling Congress party president Sonia Gandhi, have strongly condemned the blasts.
