10 foreign tourists killed in attack in W. Afghanistan

At least 10 foreign tourists were killed and five others wounded in an ambush attack in Afghanistan's western province of Herat on Thursday, a district governor said.

"Two mini buses carrying foreign tourists were attacked by gunmen along a main road in Chishti Sharif District Thursday morning. As a result of the incident 10 people were killed and five others wounded," district governor Farhad Khadimi told Xinhua.

Details about the nationalities of the victims were not available immediately.

The governor said that the buses were travelling from central Bamyan province to Herat province, with Herat city as its capital, 640 km west of Kabul.

"Several travelers were rescued by security forces shortly after the incident. And an investigation was launched into the attack," Khadimi added.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack so far.
