Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park established

South China's island province of Hainan established the Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park in about two years during the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2015-2020). The pilot project covers more than 95 percent of virgin forests and 55 percent of natural forests on the island.

Hainan issued the "Ecological Relocation Plan for Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park," innovating a new model of land replacement. Baisha Li Autonomous County has successfully completed the ecological relocation.

The "Regulations on Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park (Trial)" and the "Management Measures for the Franchise of Hainan Tropical Rainforest National Park" were promulgated, and have achieved initial legislative results.

In September 2020, the expert group and field inspection team for the evaluation and acceptance of the pilots of thenational park system fully recognized the park's achievements. According to the experts, it took only a little more than two years for Hainan to accomplish the pilot task that normally takes three to five years for other national parks to accomplish.

The province's forestry department says it will continue to employ innovative methods in the park's construction. The park aims to serve as a strong ecological base for the free trade port besides boosting tourism.
