**JAKARTA, Oct. 14 (APD) -- **Indonesia Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati was named 2018 Finance Minister of the Year East Asia Pacific by a prominent international economic media for her achievements to make Indonesian resilient amid the ensuing global downturns.
The Indonesian minister was praised for her capability in her second ministerial posts to preserve national economy remains positive in a more challenging condition at present.
The award from Global Markets magazine was handed over during the annual meeting of International Monetary Fund (IMF) and World Bank (WB) in Indonesia’s resort island of Bali.
The seasoned finance minister was highly commended for her capability in bolstering Indonesia’s tax income to 91 percent from target in 2017 through successful tax amnesty program.
That figure was higher than in her previous ministerial term that stood at 89 percent.
She was also successfully capable to spur the nation’s budget spending from 73 percent in 2016 to a six-year-high 97 percent in 2017.
“For us, tax reform is not a luxury nor option. It is a compulsory measure. We are striving to improve tax compliance among the people. No negotiation for that,” the minister said in her remarks to receive the award in Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center on Saturday.
She said fiscal and state budget policies are her ministry’s fundamental tools to direct the nation’s economic development.
Through solid synergy with other state institutions, fiscal reform can be applied in three vital budget elements of revenues, spending and financing.
Results of such a synergy was expected to make national budget healthier, more prudent and more productive, she added.
