Thailand remains open to foreign visitors despite a COVID-19 pandemic while all colleges and universities are being closed on a temporary basis, said Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Tuesday.
The prime minister cited Tuesday's cabinet resolution for the temporary shutdown of all colleges and universities nationwide for a two-week time from Wednesday in order to contain the COVID-19 spread. Thailand's elementary-level and secondary-level schools are currently in recess until the middle of May.
Besides, entertainment venues, bars, theaters, massage parlors, stadiums, concert halls and other places where many people might otherwise gather throughout the country are temporarily closed for the two-week time, he said.
Nevertheless, Thailand remains open to arrivals from other countries on condition that visitors obtain medical certificates to assure they are not carrying the novel coronavirus, Prayut said in a press conference at the Government House.
All visitors to Thailand are required to use an online application so that they could be located by authorities at any time during their stay in this country, according to the prime minister.
All personnel of government agencies and state firms are prohibited from taking overseas tours until the COVID-19 situation has considerably improved.
The world-famous Songkran water-splashing festival, which has been traditionally held next month in all provinces of the country, is indefinitely postponed for fear of a COVID-19 spread.
