The ongoing plenary meeting of the ruling party of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held here focused Monday on the principled issues related to the strengthening of the party and the enhancing of the cadres' roles, the state media reported Tuesday.

On the third day of the 5th Plenary Meeting of the 7th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, top leader Kim Jong Un talked about the tasks and ways in detail for "further consolidating the Party organizationally and ideologically as required by the developing revolution, remarkably fostering its leadership ability as the General Staff of the revolution and developing the party into a militant party full of vitality and vigor," the official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) said.

Kim "stressed the need for officials to unconditionally and thoroughly carry out the idea of the party's guidance and make selfless, devoted efforts for the people."

According to the KCNA, Kim called for "dynamically opening the road of victorious advance towards the materialization of the ambition and ideal to build a powerful socialist nation."

It also said the plenary meeting would continue on Tuesday to study the draft resolution of relevant agenda and an important document will be discussed as the next agenda.

Kim opened the party meeting Saturday and presided over its second- and third-day sessions.

The plenary session was held before Kim is to deliver the New Year's Day address, in which he may announce a major policy shift related to denuclearization and diplomatic issues.
