U.S. military aircraft crashes in Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province

A U.S. military aircraft crashed in Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province on Monday, the U.S. military confirmed, saying the cause of crash is under investigation.

KABUL, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- A U.S. military aircraft crashed in Afghanistan's eastern Ghazni province on Monday, the U.S. military said.

William Leggett, a spokesman for the U.S. military in Afghanistan, confirmed that a U.S. Bombardier E-11A crashed on Monday in Ghazni province, saying the cause of crash is under investigation.

"There are no indications the crash was caused by enemy fire," Leggett said in a statement posted on Twitter.

However, Zabiullah Mujahid, a purported Taliban spokesman, claimed earlier in the day that the militants shot down an intelligence aircraft of U.S. forces in Sadokhil area, Deh Yak district of Ghazni at midday Monday.

Provincial Afghan officials in Ghazni confirmed a plane crash incident in Deh Yak district on Monday, but they did not provide any details about the possible casualties, saying the incident occurred in the Taliban-controlled area. ■
