Hurricane Ida makes landfall in Louisiana

The category four Hurricane Ida has made a landfall in the U.S. state of Louisiana on Sunday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.

Arriving with a barometric pressure of 930 millibars, Ida will continue to produce heavy rainfall through Monday across the central Gulf Coast across southeast Louisiana, coastal Mississippi, and southwestern Alabama, according to the center.

Local media outlets reported that more than 500,000 people have been left without power in the state within hours of landfall.
