Lantianyi company limited, a private Chinese food company in Ghana, has devoted more than 50,000 U.S. dollars to Ghana's fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, the company announced here Sunday.

Lan Yongsheng, chairman of the company, said that their efforts include donations of soymilk beverages and medical supplies to various governmental institutions and local communities.

Ghana has recorded 834 COVID-19 cases as of Sunday with 9 deaths, making it one of the hardest-hit countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

The government has imposed a partial lockdown to curb the spread of the virus, during which many people's lives have been affected, particularly the poor that rely on street businesses for a living.

"As a Chinese company that has been operating here for several years, we should stand out to help Ghanaians get through this trying period," said Lan, adding that the company has established close bonds with locals over years.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic in Ghana, the Chinese community in Ghana has spared no efforts in helping Ghanaians in the battle against the virus, according to Wang Shiting, the Chinese Ambassador to Ghana.

The Chinese community and Chinese embassy in Ghana on Friday donated assorted food items and medical supplies to local communities.
