China increased its holdings of US Treasury securities for the third consecutive month in April, US Treasury Department data showed on Thursday.

An additional 4.6 billion US dollars was scooped up in April, bringing China's US treasuries stock to 1.0922 trillion US dollars in total.

China's forex reserves stood at 3.05 trillion US dollars at the end of May, an increase of 24 billion US dollars from that recorded at the end of April, according to China's forex regulator, the State Administration of Foreign Exchange (SAFE).

China's forex reserves expanded for the fourth month in a row in May after capital flight pressure eased, propping up the value of the renminbi (RMB).

Japan, which surpassed China as the largest holder of US treasuries in last October, cut its holdings by 12.4 billion US dollars to 1.1069 trillion US dollars in April.

By the end of April, overall foreign holdings of US Treasury securities dropped to 6.0737 trillion US dollars from March's 6.1023 trillion US dollars.
