Sangam Sweets sealed for using inedible chemicals

KATHMANDU, Oct. 2 -- The Department of Food Technology and Quality Control has sealed Sangam Sweets, a restaurant in New Baneswhor.

The Sangam Sweets have been found to be using Hydro-1, a blue dye chemical in the sweets. According to Food Investigation Officer Ishwar Subedi, Sangam Sharma, the proprietor would be booked as per the Food Act, 2023 and Regulations 2027 BS for the use of substandard and inedible contents.

According to the provision in the Act and Regulations, any businessperson found to be using inedible contents will face a jail-term of five years or Rs 50,000 in fine or both.
