The Chinese mainland has summoned a regional airline, the UNI Air, and urged the company to plug loopholes in COVID-19 control, a spokesperson for the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, told reporters on Friday, after one passenger that tested positive for COVID-19 managed to board a UNI Air flight from Taipei to Xiamen on May 31.

Ma Xiaoguang said passengers for cross-strait flights are required to provide negative nucleic acid test results within three days before boarding.

The passenger, who has tampered with the health certificate, will be severely punished according to law, he added.

Ma urged involved parties in the region to close the loopholes in containing the virus and take responsibility for safeguarding the health and lives of the people across the Taiwan Straits.
