Lithuania is not complying with international law in its decision to turn away immigrants attempting to cross in from neighboring Belarus, the Red Cross warns. Lithuania, a member of the European Union, has faced a surge of mostly Iraqi migrants in the past few months.
Many migrants are being held inside a newly built refugee camp in the Rudninkai military training ground, about 23 miles (38km) south from Vilnius. The president of Belaruson Thursday ordered security forces to “close every meter of the border” to stop migrants from returning.
