China win men's 100m breaststroke, women's 100m butterfly gold medals at World Aquatics Championships

Chinese swimmers won two gold medals at the World Aquatics Championships on Monday.

Qin Haiyang won China's maiden men's 100m breaststroke gold in World Championships history, clocking 57:69, which topped his own Asian record from the semifinal a day ago. Yan Zibei finished sixth with a time of 59:23.

Qin raised his own Asian record three times in two days while topping Zeng Qiliang's silver medal in this event from the 1998 edition in Perth.

Later on Monday, Zhang Yufei won the women's 100m butterfly in 56:12 as she outclassed Margaret MacNeil of Canada with 5 meters remaining. This was her first long-course World Championships title.

Zhang, reigning Olympic champion in 200m butterfly and silver medalist in 100m butterfly at the Tokyo Games, was leading after the 50-meter benchmark. MacNeil, however, took over shortly before Zhang speeded up toward the end to clinch the title.
