Syrian President Bashar al-Assad on Sunday highlighted his administration's determination to retake all Syrian areas from rebels, the state news agency SANA reported.

Countries hostile to Syria are still trying to protect "terrorists" who take civilians as hostages and human shields, which cannot be allowed to continue at the expense of the life, security and stability of the citizens, Assad said during his meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani Damascus.

For his part, Larijani affirmed Iran's continued support for Syria, noting the recent victories made by the Syrian army.

The meeting comes as the Syrian army is making strides in the battles against the rebel groups in the countryside of Aleppo Province in northern Syria, just days after the army managed to secure the main Damascus-Aleppo highway.

Capturing the road is a strategic win for the Syrian army as the road links Aleppo, the economic capital of Syria, with the political capital of Damascus.
