Arsenal maintained their perfect start to the English Premier League (EPL) season with a fifth consecutive win, but Manchester City's new signing Erling Haaland stole the limelight with his second hat-trick in a 6-0 romp over Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Haaland struck three times in the opening 38 minutes. He put City ahead in the 12th minute after a pass by Phil Foden, who also provided the assist for Haaland's second goal. Haaland then completed his treble with a powerful header.

Mikel Arteta's side stayed unbeaten this season as they edged Aston Villa 2-1 to lead the standings with 15 points, with Brazilian Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli both on target for the Gunners.

Alexander Isak scored on his debut for Newcastle to put his side ahead at Anfield but Liverpool snatched a 2-1 victory deep in stoppage time through Fabio Carvalho. Tottenham Hotspur were held to a 1-1 draw at West Ham United.

Elsewhere in Europe, Bayern Munich eased past third tier Viktoria Cologne 5-0 to move into the German Cup second round.

In France, both Neymar and Kylian Mbappe contributed goals to help Paris St Germain to stay atop Ligue 1 with a 3-0 win at Toulouse. The French champions moved on to 13 points from five games, ahead of Olympique de Marseille and RC Lens on goal difference.

In Italy, Juventus won over Spezia 2-0 in Serie A.
