The Netherlands reports 60 new confirmed cases of new coronavirus

Another 60 people have tested positive for the coronavirus in the Netherlands, bringing the country's total cases to 188, according to the National Institute for Public Health and the Environment on Saturday.

An 86-year-old man has died of the coronavirus in the Netherlands, becoming the first Dutch coronavirus casualty, health officials said.

Twenty-six of the new cases have been found in the province of North-Brabant.

Among the 188 patients, 112 had been abroad. The majority (103) of these patients had been to the northern part of Italy. In addition, 47 people were infected through a diagnosed patient. Twenty-nine people are still being investigated how they became infected.

Most of the patients are under home isolation while 24 patients have been hospitalized. The Municipal Public Health Service (GGD) and the hospital are conducting contact investigations for all new patients.

On Feb. 27, a 56-year-old man from Loon op Zand in the southern province of North Brabant became the first person in the Netherlands to test positive for COVID-19.
