An American national militant of Islamic State (IS) was killed Sunday during the ongoing battles at the predominantly Kurdish city of Kobane on the Syrian-Turkish borders, the pan-Arab al-Mayadeen TV reported.

The report said the fighter, who goes by the name of Abu Muhammad al-Amriki, was an IS leader, spelling no further details.

Battles in the Kurdish city of Kobane have been raging on since the IS unleashed its crushing offensive against the city over three weeks ago.

The U.S.-led anti-terror coalition has been striking the positions of the IS around Kobane in recent days, but so far failed to stem the flow of the radical groups into the city.

The IS has drawn hundreds of foreign nationals to fight among its ranks, bringing fears among the European nations and the U.S. about the threat the radicalized Western fighters could pose on their own countries.

Foreign reports recently said that more than 100 Americans are among those who have tried to join various militant groups in Syria. Enditem
