Road accidents kill 428 in Kuwait in 2017: statistics

About 428 people were killed in road accidents in Kuwait in 2017, the Kuwaiti newspaper Al-Jarida daily said Tuesday.

According to an annual statistics issued by the Kuwaiti General Directorate of the General Traffic Department, 71,161 road accidents took place in 2017 in Kuwait, as a result of which 428 victims died, 177 of them Kuwaitis, 21 Bedouins, 16 citizens from the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries and 214 people of various nationalities,

The statistics also showed Hawalli Governorate topped the list with 19,697 accidents, the Capital governorate came in second place with 17,851 accidents, Farwaniya third with 12,216, Ahmadi fourth with 11,044, the Mubarak Al-Kabir fifth with 5,784 accidents and Jahra came in the 6th place with 4,569 accidents.

Recent statistics indicate that nearly all traffic accidents and violations recorded were related to crossing of red signals, excessive speeding, use of mobile phones and reckless driving.
