Bangladesh Cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan, on Sunday (March 12), said they are confident of roping in a head coach by next month. The position has been lying vacant since the unexpected departure of Chandika Hathurusingha in November last year.

The announcement came a day after Bangladesh earned a terrific five-wicket win over Sri Lanka through a record chase under the guidance of former Windies pace bowler Courtney Walsh to end their prolonged losing streak. With the win, they kept their hopes alive in the ongoing Nidahas Trophy in Colombo.

Walsh was given the responsibility on an interim basis after Khaled Mahmud failed to live up to expectation in the home series against Sri Lanka following the ODI tri-series between the hosts, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe. BCB, since then, has opted to take some time instead of rushing to rope a coach.

"We will finalise the head coach after the series," Nazmul said. "No point talking about it here as we are all currently away from home. But we are expecting to call two to three candidates [for interviews].

"We are hoping that our next head coach will join by April as we are determined to complete his selection by this month."

Though Nazmul remained silent about the identity of the coaches who have been chosen in the shortlist he confirmed Hathurusingha will not be replaced by any of his compatriots. "They are coming from different places but certainly there is no Sri Lankan in it," he revealed.

Earlier, Richard Pybus and Phil Simmons visited Bangladesh to come up with their presentations during the time they were called for interview. Pybus has had a short stint with Bangladesh while Simmons picked up the role of Afghanistan head coach after being given cold shoulders by the BCB.
