Trooper held in fake currency case found hanging in Indian-controlled Kashmir

A trooper of India's Territorial Army accused in a fake currency racket in Indian-controlled Kashmir was Thursday found hanging inside a police station, police said.

Police said the trooper had committed suicide using pair of socks to hang. "Today in the wee hours Muneer Ahmad Manhas of Uri prime accused in the fake currency racket was found hanging inside police station Ram Munshibagh," police spokesman said. "He was working in Territorial Army." Territorial Army was raised in the restive region to counter militants.

An administrative officer in Srinagar city has started inquest proceedings in the case. "Body of deceased has been sent for post- mortem," the spokesman said.
