The 11th annual Beijing International Film Festival has been rescheduled and will be held from Sept. 21 to 29, with nearly 300 films to be screened and various additional activities to be launched, according to the organizers on Monday.
The festival will feature unique opening and closing ceremonies on the premise of the COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control, where overseas guests will be able to interact online.
Guests invited to attend the red-carpet opening ceremony at the venue beside Yanqi Lake in Beijing's Huairou District can take a train along the Huairou-Miyun Line of Beijing Suburban Railway, passing through some of the most beautiful natural sceneries in northeastern Beijing. At the closing ceremony, 10 Tiantan Awards will be presented to winning filmmakers after the jury votes.
Approximately 1,000 showings of nearly 300 Chinese and foreign films will be available in 31 cinemas in the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region during the festival, while the Online BJIFF in exclusive collaboration with online streaming giant iQiyi has been fully upgraded this year.
From Sept. 15 to Oct. 8, movie fans can watch high-quality films from around the world in the themed sections exclusively on iQiyi. At the same time, Beijing Radio Television Station will open up TV channels for screenings.
The 11th BJIFF will feature multiple forums on cutting-edge and focus issues such as the development of art-house films, the development of young filmmakers, the creation of animated films and the development and construction of the new Film Town in Beijing's Huairou District. Five Workshop Masterclass activities will also invite film masters to pass on their wisdom to more film practitioners.
As a new addition to the BJIFF this year, the BJIFF Release event will release an array of research findings and industry reports bound to attract much attention, such as film investment, financing and marketing, so as to play the role of the BJIFF in reflecting the very latest in the film industry.
Based on the entire global film industry chain, the Beijing Film Market event features six major sections, namely Exhibitions, Project Pitches, Industry Conversation, Events Activities, Market Screenings, and the Contract Signing Ceremony, as well as new additional activities such as BJIFF TALENTS and Academy Day. Big data, cloud computing, artificial intelligence algorithms and other technologies will be comprehensively used to advance the digital upgrade of the three major transaction platforms of Film Factor, Project Pitches and Film Copyright.
A number of offline activities have been curated for the Film Carnival, including the immersive experience of the Flower Sea of the Film Town, a film and TV animation modeling exhibition, a film and TV-themed light show, and a parent-child themed interactive show.
There will also be a full range of cross-border efforts to flourish Beijing's cultural and entertainment industry, including an online short mobile film forum, a Beijing Ethnic Film Festival, a game-based animated film exhibition, and an online filmmakers marathon relay and other activities.
