French President Macron names new Interior Minister in Cabinet reshuffle

French President Emmanuel Macron reshuffled his cabinet on Tuesday to find a second wind after two prominent ministers abruptly resigned from his government.

Mr. Macron named Christophe Castaner as the new interior minister, replacingGérard Collomb, a political heavyweight who was among the first to leave the Socialist party and back Mr. Macron’s 2017 presidential bid.

Christophe Castaner is one of the main figures in President Macron's inner circle, having backed him from the early stages of his campaign for the presidency, and currently serves as head of the ruling Republic on the Move party

Mr. Castaner, a close ally of Mr. Macron, is a former member of the Socialist Party. He has been Secretary of State for Parliamentary Relations since May 2017.

Mr. Macron named Socialist lawmaker Didier Guillaume as his minister of agriculture. Center right lawmaker Franck Riester will succeed Francoise Nyssen as culture minister.
