Ryzhiy, Russia's only police corgi retired recently from his job with the Nizhny Novgorod City's Transport Police after seven and a half years of service, according to Zvezda, Russian state-owned TV network on June 28.

This nine-year-old corgi, the only police dog corgi in Russia, has helped the police find drugs and firearms thanks to its incredible sniffing skills.

After retirement, Ryzhiy will continue training to prepare for the agile dog race in the future.

Local media reported that Ryzhiy was initially just a pet for policewoman Olga Chumarova who bought the dog for her daughter. But this changed when Chumarova thought Ryzhiy would be up to a special assignment. So she volunteered it and sent it for training.

After the training, he is now one of the most talented sniffer dogs in the police force and is often seen working at train stations and bus stops. In 2015, Ryzhiy became the Russian obedience champion because of its incredible docility.

After local media reported Ryzhiy's story more than a year ago, the dog has gained a lot of attention and love among the public, and has become a popular dog online, with more than 13,000 subscribers on Instagram.
