TCL Multimedia Technology Holdings Ltd, a Hong Kong-listed television maker, is aiming to boost its sales in Hong Kong in a bid to become one of the top five TV sellers in the city by 2020.

The company plans to press its rivals in Hong Kong in terms of sales volume next year, targeting a 5.5% market share and becoming the largest Chinese TV maker in the city by 2019, Will Chen Hua, TCL’s head of marketing in its Overseas Business Center, said in a media briefing on Wednesday.

The company wants to boost its market share in Hong Kong to 7% by 2020, he said, without providing the current figure.

In Hong Kong, other key Chinese TV makers include Skyworth and Hisense.

Last year TCL sold 20.2 million TV units globally and was the world’s third largest seller of TVs after Samsung Group (48.1 million units) and LG (26.5 million units). In the first nine months of this year,

TCL sold 16.1 million units, up 11% from the same period last year.

TCL expects to achieve sales growth for the full year of 2017 and hopes to maintain its No 3 ranking worldwide.

In the first half of 2017, TCL ranked fifth in North America, fourth in France, fifth in Vietnam, third in the Philippines, fourth in Thailand and fifth in Australia.

Since July, TCL has released a group of large outdoor ads to promote its brand in 15 Belt & Road countries and 30 key cities in China.

On October 8, the Shenzhen-based company announced that it had entered into an official international TV partnership with Warner Bros Pictures’ Justice League, a super-hero movie, for the first time on the big screen. The two parties have joined hands also to promote the movie with its fans and consumers around the globe.

On Wednesday, TCL launched its latest product – the UHD Smart TV P6 series, to be sold in retail shops next month – in a Hong Kong media briefing. Justice League was set to debut in local cinemas on Thursday.
