Shanghai Int'l Marathon listed as Platinum Label Road Races by World Athletics

Shanghai International Marathon has been listed as Platinum Label Road Races in the latest competition calendar updated by the World Athletics on Friday.

The Platinum Label is a new competition category for road races added by the World Athletics at the end of 2018, representing a higher competition organizing standard and service quality than the Gold Label.

The identification criteria for Platinum Label requires better athletes' performance and higher bonus setting, which is close to the level of Abbott World Marathon Majors.

The World Athletics announced the first seven Platinum Label Road Races in last November, including Tokyo Marathon, Seoul Marathon, Nagoya Women's Marathon, B.A.A. Boston Marathon, Virgin Money London Marathon, media marathon de Bogota and BMW Berlin Marathon.

Apart from Shanghai International Marathon, Bank of America Chicago Marathon, TCS Amsterdam Marathon, TCS New York CIty Marathon and Marathon Valencia Trinidad Alfonso EDP have been crowned with the Platinum Label in the newly released calendar.

The 2020 Shanghai International Marathon is scheduled for November 22.
