Myanmar new president U Htin Kyaw Sunday called on the country's people to cooperate with the government to ensure success in administration efforts.

In his new year message to the nation, U Htin Kyaw said the administration efforts are to implement such policy as national reconciliation, internal peace, emergence of a constitution that aims to establish a democratic federal union and promotion of the social life of the people for the sake of the country.

Thanking voting public, he invited criticism to point out discrepancies and fallacies seen and make suggestion to what ought to be done.

He expressed warm welcome to Aung San Suu Kyi-led government as it assumes the duty of state.

He pledged to continue to strive for the release of political prisoners, activists and students facing political charges, using constitutional rights criminal procedures to lift these sentences and to acquit them in the new year period.

He also pledged sustained efforts in the future to prevent those who act legally for political causes or for their own conscience from being imprisoned.

He expresses the hope that people will utilize the many opportunities effectively in this new year and the years to come to reach a high level politically, economically and socially.

To bring about the best result, he stressed the need for the new government to exert efforts with constant vigil and relentless diligence.

The new government took office on April 1 after Aung San Suu Kyi-led National League for Democracy (NLD) won the absolute majority of parliamentary seats in the Nov. 8, 2015 general election.
