MADRID, Oct. 25 (Xinhua) -- The Spanish Interior Ministry confirmed that a 52-year-old man was detained here on Wednesday on suspicion of belonging to the Islamic State (DAESH).

The arrested man has been named as Luis Jose Fernandez Galan, also known as Yusuf Galan, and is the only Spanish terrorist to form part of the Al Quaeda cell to be tried and condemned in Spain for the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attack against the United States.

Fernandez Galan was sentenced in October 2005 to nine years and six months in prison for forming part of a terrorist organization, and was released in May 2011.

His recent arrest is for attempting to recruit and indoctrinate people for the Islamic State, using a "sophisticated modus operandi" to spread propaganda on a large scale without being detected, using various profiles to send instant messages to as many people as possible.

The ministry also informs that he published videos to teach the use of blade weapons accompanied by messages inciting people to carry out terror attacks.
