Six months after one of China's biggest bottled water producers, Nongfu Spring Company, filed documents to sue Beijing-based Jinghua Times for alleged "misreporting" of their water quality, the company has sent a deputy to Beijing to move the process forward.

According to Nongfu Spring, the Beijing-based Jinghua Times newspaper published 76 negative reports using 67 pages over 28 days, from April 10th to May 7th, 2013.

Nongfu Spring claimed that the newspaper's reports lack factual basis, adding that the opinions from the administrative departments quoted in the reports were also made up.

According to the spokesman, the company has suffered a total loss of 32 billion US dollars since April.

Nongfu Spring filed a complaint to the Jinghua Times on April 26th, 2013, which was accepted by Beijing Chaoyang People's Court. But, so far, no trial has yet been heard.

The Jinghua Times reports claimed Nongfu Spring water did not meet national standards.

The company then explained that they had adopted local standards.

But, according to the National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment, companies can only adopt local standards when there's no relevant national alternative.

At a press conference in May, Nongfu Spring's Chairman, Zhong Shanshan said that though the standard on the bottle is local, the actual standard used is national...

But China's food safety authorities have not yet confirmed whether this is the case.
