Ten years ago, being a superstar is almost impossible for the ordinary people, but things have changed as the live streaming a new way of entertainment, burgeons, which is popular among Chinese young people.

Live streaming refers to online streaming media simultaneously recorded and broadcast in real time to the viewer, which is the definition given by Wikipedia.

The live streaming platforms offer a wide variety of content, including food, music, dance and game or even just chatting with the stars. Douyu, Qi’e, Huya are among the most popular websites in China.

A most popular live streaming host can attract millions of real-time viewers in a live show. It is reported that a host could earn even 100,000 yuan through a live streaming. His/Her salary mainly comes from the virtual gifts send by his/her viewers, which is known as “Da Shang” in Chinese.

“Da Shang” means that the viewers are entertained by the host’s performance, so they are willing to show their appreciations through sending gifts. Actually, it has something to do with the traditional Chinese culture.

In the ancient times, some people make their livings by performing. Every time they perform, the onlookers would give them some money.

To some degree, live streaming is inherited from this ancient art form with the new contents being added.

After the live streaming go viral, some pieces of negative news come out.

A host of King of Glory suddenly died recently because he stayed up late for almost two months. His sudden death has aroused people’s concerns over the hosts’ health condition. High earning is at the price of overtired body, which has long been ignored.

Another concern is the quality of live streaming products.

Some say everyone could be a live streaming host. One would be the spotlight of millions of viewers as long as the performance is interesting enough. Being a superstar seems accessible.

But the question is that how to make an interesting performance to attract as many viewers as possible.

To cater to their followers, many performances tend to be vulgar because what the hosts pursue for is just a large number of subscribers and high income.

That’s why some doubt whether the live streaming will go further.
