China’s new ambassador to ASEAN presents credential to Secretary General

JAKARTA, Jan. 29 (APD) — China’s newly appointed Ambassador to ASEAN Huang Xilian presented his credentials to ASEAN Secretary General (SG) Dato Lim Jock Hoi here on Monday, vowing to enhance further relations between China and ASEAN.

“I am honored to be the ambassador of China to ASEAN and are ready to work closely with His Excellency the Secretary-General and colleagues from all ASEAN countries to implement the consensus reached by the leaders of both sides and to further promote China-ASEAN relations as well as community of destiny between the two economies,” Ambassador Huang said in his remarks in the event.

The handing over of the official letters officiating Ambassador Huang’s service in ASEAN was conducted in Dato Lim’s office at ASEAN Secretariat.

Warmly welcoming Ambassador Huang, Dato Lim said that ASEAN attaches great importance on its relations with China, adding that China has significant role in preserving peace, stability as well as promoting development and prosperity in Southeast Asia region.

According to Dato Lim, China is one of ASEAN’s most important dialogues partners, largest trade partner at present.

“I look forward to establish closer communications with Ambassador Huang and so is ASEAN Secretariat,” Dato Lim said.

He added that ASEAN is now looking forward to enhance further the joint efforts with China aimed at mutually increasing political trusts, enhancing bilateral cooperation in various fields and deepening the economic and trade exchanges between the two economies.

By doing so, Dato Lim said that it would eventually expand their contribution in preserving peace, stability and promote prosperity in the region.

Dato Lim Jock Hoi assumed his current post in ASEAN earlier this month, succeeded the previous secretary general from Vietnam Le Luong Minh. Date Lim, who is from Brunei Darussalam, would serve until 2022.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Huang Xilian replaced the previous China ambassador to ASEAN Xu Bu who ended his service tenure late last year.

China-ASEAN celebrate their 15th anniversary of bilateral strategic partnership this year with 2018 has been declared as China-ASEAN Year of Innovation.

The two economies press ahead for the formulation of "Vision of 2030 for the China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership,” which would link development strategies of the respective entities, highly expected to bring China-ASEAN ties into an unprecedented level.
