China's State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi had a telephone conversation with his ROK counterpart Chung Eui-yong on Wednesday, calling on both sides to make good use of the joint prevention and control mechanism of COVID-19 while ensuring the movement of necessary personnel.
Chung said that as a close neighbor of China, the ROK attaches great importance to developing the strategic cooperation partnership with China, adheres to the one-China principle and fully recognizes the sensitivity of cross-Straits relations.
He added the ROK is ready to deepen political mutual trust with China, strengthen cooperation in various fields, inject more content and impetus into the relations between the two countries and send out more positive messages for the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties.
Chung expressed the strong willingness of the ROK to improve North-South relations and push forward the peace process on the Korean Peninsula. He said he hoped that China will continue to play an important and constructive role on the Korean Peninsula issue.
Wang Yi said China supports the improvement of North-South relations and efforts to ease the situation on the Korean Peninsula. He called on the UN Security Council to activate the reversible provisions of the DPRK-related resolutions and ease sanctions on people's livelihood of the DPRK.
The Chinese Foreign Minister also urged the United States to take concrete actions to implement the US-DPRK Joint Statement released in Singapore.
