The Thai government will not lodge a constitution amendment motion on their own while all partners of the coalition are free to do so, said deputy government spokeswoman Ratchada Thanadirek on Tuesday.

She quoted Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha as saying during Tuesday's cabinet meeting at the Government House that his government as a whole will not file any motion for constitution amendment but all coalition parties may put forward their own versions of amendment by themselves.

That refers to the ruling Palang Pracharath Party, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon, and the Democrat Party, headed by Deputy Prime Minister Jurin Laksanawisit, among other coalition partners.

Prayut's comments apparently followed Monday's event in which the opposition bloc, led by the Pheu Thai Party, lodged a constitution amendment motion at parliament, which is yet to be put on agenda of the House of Representatives in a 15-day time.
