Carrefour's pricing fraud

text

French retail giant Carrefour is in trouble in China again - with more price cheating allegations.

This time, an outlet in the northern city of Taiyuan was accused of misleading pricing, after six Carrefoure stores in another city were fined for similar charges in June.

The outlet is accused of charging higher prices than labeled.

A customer said a Colacao was labeled as 11.9 yuan, or 1.91 U.S. dollars, a sack - but customers were charged 46 cents more at the counter.

The city's pricing authority said Carrefour's activity is a typical price fraud.

They will impose due fines on the store after a thorough investigation.

So far, the French retailer has not responded to the accusation.

Since last year, Carrefour was involved in a string of pricing scandals.

Its stores in Shanghai, Changchun, Kunming and Shenzhen - fined more than 800 thousand dollars for pricing frauds.

In June, six Carrefour outlets in Wuhan were fined more than 72,000 dollars for price gouging.

But the damage to the brand's image could be longer lasting: Critics now accuse Carrefour of ignoring Chinese consumers' interests...
