Russia should take proactive measures to prevent new surges in COVID-19 cases in autumn and winter, President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday.
It is time for Russia to prepare for possible new risks as the season of colds and flu is approaching, Putin said during an online meeting with government officials on the COVID-19 pandemic situation in the country.
The epidemiological situation is stabilizing in most regions of the country, but local governments should be cautious in phasing out coronavirus-related restrictions, he said.
The president warned that the situation remains difficult and could worsen.
It is important to ensure in advance that even with increased workloads, Russian hospitals and clinics still work stably and citizens receive high-quality medical care, Putin stressed.
He urged every precaution should be taken to avoid the re-introduction of restrictions, especially large-scale ones, through preventive and proactive measures.
Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova said during the meeting that two vaccines against COVID-19 created in Russia have "the greatest prospects."
The registration of the first is planned in August and the production in September, while the other is expected to be registered in September with production in October, she said.
