Hong Kong's tech businesses and entrepreneurs met here Thursday with a London delegation during the Hong Kong-London Tech Forum with discussions over fostering cooperation on tech investment.

The London delegation was led by London & Partners, the official promotional company for London funded by the city's mayor and a network of commercial partners.

"London offers Hong Kong tech companies the perfect springboard into global markets, with London's location allowing decision makers to do business across European, Asian and U.S. time zones," said Gordon Innes, London & Partners CEO.

Simon Squibb, founder and CEO of Nest VC, an early stage VC located in Hong Kong and London specializing in Fintech (financial technology) and IOT (Internet of Things) start-ups said: "London is the gateway to Europe and Hong Kong is the gateway to China so between the two centers there is access to two thirds of the world' s population."

"London and Hong Kong both have their own transparent banking systems and established Fintech communities. In today's market you can't just be local you have to be global and both Hong Kong and London are financial hubs where many investment opportunities lie. "

London's booming technology sector, which secured record investment last year, is a natural partner for Hong Kong's growing Fintech cluster, delegates at the forum said.

The delegates agreed that both London and Hong Kong are important business centers as well as strategic hubs for their respective regions, and thus are leading destinations for companies looking to internationalize and offer gateways to new markets.
