The goal of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) is to establish an equilibrium of real force with the US, its leader Kim Jong Un was quoted as saying by the country's state media.

Kim made the remark during his inspection of the launch of a medium-to-long range Hwasong-12 missile that flew over Japan into the Pacific Ocean on Friday.

Kim added DPRK's goal of completing its nuclear force had "nearly reached the terminal".

"We should clearly show the big power chauvinists how our state attains the goal of completing its nuclear force despite their limitless sanctions and blockade," Kim was quoted as saying by the KCNA.

The missile, flying eastward about 3,700 kilometers, likely reached an altitude of 770 kilometers, according to South Korea's military.

Experts said that the firing apparently showed Pyongyang's capacity to strike Guam, located some 3,400 kilometers from the DPRK.
