Foreign ministers of Argentina and Egypt on Sunday reaffirmed the need to strengthen bilateral cooperation during a meeting held in Cairo, Argentine Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"The visit of Argentine Foreign Minister Hector Timerman to Egypt ended on Sunday. The visit included several meetings between the delegations of both countries, headed by the respective foreign ministers," said the statement.

"During the meeting held with the Egyptian counterpart, Sameh Shoukry, the (Argentine) foreign minister deepened some of the issues discussed yesterday with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi," the statement added.

Both ministers, the statement said, "highlighted the need to continue working together at the multilateral organizations to defend the developing countries and to denounce the double standards of power countries."

Timerman thanked the support of Egypt in the dispute with Britain for the Malvinas Islands in the Southern Atlantic, said the statement.

During the meeting, the two foreign ministers analyzed Argentina's recent battle with bond restructuring and the next course of action.

The United Nations General Assembly on Tuesday approved the restructuring process, thanks to the outstanding role of the Egyptian delegation in the negotiation, which ended with the overwhelming support of 124 countries while only 11 that voted against.

Argentina's foreign ministry stressed that "the long friendship between both countries is confirmed today with the joint cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy."

Together with Timerman's official visit, an Argentine multi-sector commercial mission, including foods and beverages, logistics and quality control and equipment sectors, met with Egypt's Association of Business Leaders and Cairo's Chamber of Commerce.
