Three major gadget makers revealed their new products, including Huawei's P20 (and P20 Pro), Xiaomi's Mi Mix 2S and Apple's new iPad, on Tuesday.

Of course, all three devices came with new features compared to their predecessors. But none of these features are new to the world.

So are they solid upgrades for users bored with their current devices?

Huawei P20 Pro

‍Huawei's P series is intended to be thin like paper and beautiful in appearance and the P20 is no exception, as the phone followed most of the new design trends, good or bad.

It has a vertically placed dual camera, an edge-to-edge screen and even with a notch.

Although the notch is significantly smaller to most competitors, the design makes people think about the iPhone X.

But there's one thing different: The P20 has a physical home button placed on the bottom of the phone, with a fingerprint sensor attached under.

This makes the P20 unique from Huawei's rivals, who usually put the sensor on the back of their products.

Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S

Xiaomi's new all-screen phone is one of those products.

But the Mix 2S managed to keep itself away from a notch. The Mix series have the front camera on the bottom right corner instead of top.

The main advancement of the Mix 2S, as Xiaomi's founder Lei Jun claims, is the main camera.

Xiaomi has finally put dual cams on a Mix phone, and also aligned them vertically.

The company wants to fix what its user say is a bad camera experience by deploying AI to help the software choose the right mode for the photograph.

The camera got a score of 97 in a review written by camera tester DxOMark, the same score as Huawei's Mate 10 Pro and Apple's iPhone X.

Interestingly, DxOMark mistakenly uploaded a picture taken by the P20 in the Mix 2S review, as discovered by some Weibo users.

Huawei claims the P20 is equipped with "the best smartphone camera ever". DxOMark gave it a score of 102.

The pro version of P20 goes even higher with three lenses on the back, one of which has 40 megapixels.

The new Mix phone is priced the same as the last generation, starting at 3,299 yuan (about 525 US dollars), while the P20 starts at a much higher price of 649 Euro (about 805 US dollars). Both phones will be available in April.

Apple iPad with Pencil support

Apple also held an event on the same day, but their focus was much less on cameras.

During their event, in which they heavily stressed education, Apple revealed a new iPad model with support for the Apple Pencil, which was only available to the pro version before.
