Pearl strings, cloisonné and jades are beautiful and ever eye-catching - the old popular saying mentions three among Yanjing's (Old Beijing) eight featured artworks. Cloisonné, one of the most famous traditional handicrafts of Han nationality in Beijing, dates back more than 600 years. It's also known as copper padding thread enamel, or thread enamel. It is a kind of utensil made of soft flat copper wire on the copper tire, which is molded into various patterns and welded, and then the patterns are filled with enamel colored glaze. Because it was popular in Jingtai period of the Ming Dynasty and its craftsmanship was relatively mature, the enamel used was mostly blue, so it was named cloisonné.
