Vietnamese Prime Minister (PM) Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Thursday issued a directive on improving effectiveness of detecting and handling corruption cases, reported the Vietnamese Government's e-Portal (VGP).

According to Phuc, despite several achievements in the fight against corruption in Vietnam over the past time, corruption remains complicated with sophisticated tricks. Detecting and handling corruption cases did not meet up with demands.

The number of corruption cases being detected remains few while handling corruption cases lasts for a long time, said Phuc in the directive.

In order to overcome shortcomings and increase effectiveness of detecting and handling corruption cases, the Vietnamese prime minister instructed ministers, heads of ministerial agencies, and chairpersons of people's committees of centrally-run localities to promptly examine and detect corruption acts in their respective organizations.

In addition, they are urged to build and issue standard examination processes to combat corruption in areas under their management competence in 2016.

The processes will cover areas with increasing corruption cases such as finance, banking, construction, transportation, natural resources and environment, reported the e-Portal.

Urging people to overcome reverence or the fact that cases involving corruption are not strictly handled, the prime minister said recovery of corrupted asset should also be focused on.

Moreover, concealing acts of corruption and lack of determination in recovering assets corruption will be seriously handled, Phuc added.

The prime minister urged the Government Inspectorate to determine areas with high corruption risks to build annual inspection programs, which aim at promptly detecting, preventing and dealing with corruption acts, according to the VGP.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) is designated to coordinate with relevant agencies to study and complete investigation procedures to avoid wrongly convicted cases or criminals being left out.

The MPS will work with the Supreme People's Prosecutor of Vietnam in signing judicial assistance agreements with other countries on extradition of corruption criminals and recovery of corrupted asset, said Phuc.
