A Chinese national was shot dead by unknown assailants on Monday in Karachi, southeast Pakistan, according to local police and hospital officials.

The unidentified gunmen driving a car fired multiple shots at two Chinese nationals in the Zamzama district.

One of the Chinese suffered two bullet wounds to his head and later died while under treatment, while the other one was shot in the leg, AFP reported citing senior police officer Azad Khan.

"Apparently it seems to be a targeted attack," Khan added.

The suspects have managed to flee from the crime scene after the attack.

The police identified the dead victim as 46-year-old Chen Zhu, managing director of a shipping company in Karachi.

The other victim also works for the same company, and has been taken into protective custody after the incident, local media reported.
