Nearly 90 people were killed, and dozens are still missing in the mudslides and flooding as tropical storm Tembin swept through the southern Philippines, police and disaster officials said on Saturday.

The casualties were all on the main southern island of Mindanao, said officials.

"We're are still trying to confirm reports of a farming village buried by a mudslide due to heavy rains brought by the typhoon," said Ryan Cabus, an official in the town Tubod.

Tropical storm Kai-Tak, which devastated the central Philippines last weekend has killed at least 41 people.
