Two explosions followed by gun fires shocked the diplomat enclave of Wazir Akbar Khan area in Kabul city Thursday night, police spokesman Hashmat Stanikzai said.

He also added that gun battle continues.

Meanwhile, an unofficial source said that the attackers also fired towards the residence of first vice president Abdul Rashid Dustam.

The area of blast is also close to the embassy of Tajikistan.

Taliban militants fighting the government have claimed responsibility, saying the insurgents targeted a guest house frequented by foreigners.

A security official Qadam Shah said that the target was a non- governmental organization (NGO).

Afghan security forces have rushed to the area and tried to bring the situation under control.
