Yemen's Houthi rebels say launch missile, drone attacks on Saudi Arabia

Yemen's Houthi rebels said on Monday that they launched missile and drone attacks toward the southwest of Saudi Arabia, Houthi-run al-Masirah TV reported.

The attacks targeted a military airport in Khamis Mushait city of Asir Region and an oil facility in the industrial area of Jizan Region, the television said, citing a statement by the Houthi military spokesman Yahya Sarea.

The attacks came in response to the airstrikes by the Saudi-led coalition, it added.

Earlier in the day, the coalition said in a statement aired by Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television that it intercepted and destroyed two ballistic missiles and six bomb-laden drones launched by Yemen's Houthi militia toward the kingdom.

The coalition did not report any casualties.

The Houthi militia frequently respond to the airstrikes by the coalition with missile attacks against Saudi Arabia, mainly its border cities. Saudi Arabia claims to have intercepted most of the missiles.

Yemen has been mired in civil war since late 2014 when the Iran-backed Houthi rebels seized control of much of the country's north and forced the Saudi-backed government of President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi out of the capital Sanaa.

The Saudi-led coalition intervened in the Yemeni conflict in early 2015 to support Hadi's government.
