Cambodian PM heads to South Korea for ASEAN-Korea talks, official visit

Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen flew to South Korea on Wednesday for an ASEAN-South Korea Summit and an official visit, a senior official said.

The premier is accompanied by Foreign Minister Hor Namhong, Commerce Minister Sun Chanthol, Rural Development Minister Chea Sophara, Finance Minister Aun Porn Moniroth, Sok Chenda Sophea, Secretary-General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, and Kith Meng, president of the Chamber of Commerce.

During his stay in South Korea, Hun Sen will attend the 25th ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit on Dec. 11-12 in Busan, and pay an official visit to Seoul on Dec. 13-14, Sry Thamarong, minister attached to Prime Minister Hun Sen, told reporters at Phnom Penh International Airport before departure.

"During the summit, the leaders will review and chart future direction of ASEAN-South Korea cooperation towards a long-lasting bond of partnership for trust and happiness between ASEAN and South Korea," he said.

"The Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between ASEAN-South Korea has provided enormous benefits to the peoples of the two sides in all fields, particularly politics, trade, investment, tourism and education," he said.

For the official visit, Hun Sen will hold a bilateral meeting with South Korea's President Park Geun-hye and the two leaders will witness the signing ceremony of five documents, covering the bilateral cooperation in education, business, intellectual property, healthcare and medical science, and banking and finance.
