In India, a recent wave of attacks on people, who were accused of eating beef or slaughtering cows, caused a lot of outrage, but it was the murder of a 15-year-old Muslim on suspicion of carrying beef which sparked nationwide protests.

CGTN’s Ravinder Bawa reported that protesters across India requested no more killings and forced the prime minister to speak out against these mob killings.

Living with fear of being lynched has become a new normal especially for Muslims and lower castes. Recently a senior Kashmiri police officer was lynched by mob for reasons still unclear. In another incident a few government officials allegedly lynched a Muslim man when he tried to stop them from photographing women defecating in public in Rajasthan.

Incidents of violence and aggression in the former land of non-violence have become a daily affair. Questions are being raised not just about the social fabric of the country with regard to the Hindu-Muslim relations but also ineffectiveness of government officials since all of the violence are believed to be the result of dysfunctional institutions.
